On The Houseboat

A two or three day trip on one of the countless houseboats is a fixed point for most of the Kerala tourists. Traditionally, the boats are reconstructed old rice barks. In former times, the boats where covered with rattan maps to protect the rice fraight from the monsun rains. Today, this kettuvallam named boats are equipped with two to six fine bedrooms and kitchen facility. Large boats have a crew of two to five people (captain, helmsman, cook, deck-hand) providing any convenience for up to eight passengers.
